Did you raise layer chicks with them? The batch that I had layer chicks with a couple of Cornish crosses, the Cornish X were much more active doing chicken activites.

Yes I had one 4 mo layer in with them and she showed them how to scratch, dust bathe etc.

I wouldn't let them roost once they get heavier because they will develop breast blisters.

What are breast blisters?

The breasts of a Cornish cross get very large. Allowing them to roost may cause the breasts to rub on the roosting bar and create blisters. The chest/keel area of these types of chickens is commonly bare for most of their life; thus no feathers to protect from rubbing.
