Cornish X vs. Cornish Roaster

The Cornish Roasters are bred to grow somewhat slower than the Cornish X. If truth be told I think they are probably a varient of the straight Cornish X. They are less likely to have health and leg problems and they are more tolerant of high altitudes than the Cornish X. I have raised both. They both dress out well and make a nice plump eating chicken with plenty of white meat. Personally I prefer the Cornish X because of the faster growth. But that's me.

I know this thread is really old, but I just raised a batch of McMurray Cornish Roasters, having raised Cornish X a few years ago. I have had a much better time with the roasters. They have not required any special care. They have retained their ability to run and jump, and have stayed in a mixed, free range flock with my layers. Still nice, plump birds. I am quite happy to wait an extra week or two for the ease of growing out these birds compared to all the problems I had with the Cornish X. I would definitely do these birds again.
