CornishX pulling intestines out of each other *GROSS* picture post 6

I think it is a predator also, I was losing birds at night and it was a owl. The owl would scare the chickens to one side of the tractor and move to that side, and the birds just stay piled up, the owl would peck through the wire and eat the chicken.
Could they be prolapse (sp)

This occurs during the day and at night. I think Neil Grassbaugh is on to something. Since I just put them into the tractor everything scares them. They were in a quiet brick well shelter before. After the last few yesterday I haven't seen anymore. I also put a pig mat (heating pad for piglets) out there last night so they wouldn't pile in the corner because of coldness.

Thanks Neil Grassbaugh.

Be careful with the pig mat. They usually get to hot for the birds own good but they do not react to it.

I have tried heat mats with bantams, largefowl and turkeys.Day old through growing stages. Got sore feet and breastblisters on the birds for my effort. Pig and pet heat mats worked ok if I stood them up and the birds could sit beside them but that didn't help very many of them.

You might try putting some sort of grate on the mat for the birds to sit on. Disperse the heat kind of thing.

I have the same thing happening with a bunch of sex links about 4 wks old. I know for a fact nothing else is getting to them, I have watched the nasty little birds pick one each other. They have plenty of food and water and room, are on fresh grass to boot and have scratch thrown on the grass to keep them busy thru the day.

This Is definatly the work of the other chickens, NOT A RAT!!!!

This problem occurs in mostly cornish and meat birds that neat a high protein diet. When they dont get enough protein they will try to eat the other birds. Also if they dont have enough room they will feather peck and resort to cannabilasm!!!!

***Always make sure your chickens have the right diet, and the right amount of space***
