CornishX vx. dark cornish...and what is flip?

The non-broiler birds only turn out dry and stringy if they aren't cooked right. So if you try those at some point, look up posts from people who actually cook them a lot, for tips and recipes.

You're going to be very happy with the Cornish X's. If you have a bad first batch, don't get discouraged. They take a little time to get used to, but they are great birds. It's pretty easy to avoid early losses- just restrict their feed at night, make sure they have the right feed (I feed 22% broiler feed the entire time,) and keep them on fresh ground, and you'll be fine.

For chicks, should I start them on the regular chick starter, or go with the broiler feed from the very beginning?

I have heard it done both ways. I usually brood my Cornish along with my standard chicks for a couple weeks so I use chick starter. If you are only brooding cornish I think I would just use the broiler feed.

Well, I have 7 golds, the 20 cornish, and 5 royal palm turkeys headed my way soon. The chicks/poults will get delivered to the feed store, but they'll call me when they're here. I was planning on different brooders for all of em, but now that I think about it I only have room for a chicks brooder and poults brooder.
If I start them on the regular chick starter, when should I switch to the broiler feed?

I feed regular, nonmedicated broiler feed from day one until butchering. Regular chick starter isn't quite enough for them. Plus, I find it much simpler than changing feed, and you can buy bulk feed, saving yourself money- a lot of money.

When I feed mine from day one -I feed a mixture of reg. chicken grower feed plus - the x-rock broiler feed and I mix in some wild game turkey high protien feed mix all three and feed them 3 times a day or 12 hours on 12hrs off plus all the water they can drink , I have never really had any problems with the over weigth or with bad legs , I had some of my x-rocks live and produce eggs for over a year and have mix breed them with my other birds to try to get a good broard breast cross breed layers and meat birds .

I will be ordering 30 more this yrs. and most will go into the freezer and the rest will beging a new project x rock bird with my flock , this is only a hobby but I like seeing what comes out of what
