At 8 weeks old it's almost a miracle the mother hen does anything for the chicks at all. All of mine lose interest and move on long before that.

Very true. She's keeping them for a while. They don't need her anymore. On the other hand, my hen has been keeping hers for 10 weeks, and is finally letting them be independent. Overprotective Dominique bantam is what I say.

Besides, Once they were two weeks old, they never huddled under her except at night. Now they never ever would be caught under her, because they are independent juveniles

That doesn't mean they don't peep loudly at night still. I'm pretty sure a couple deliberately ignore her.

A lot of her brood are super dependent babies, while others are just dinky are super slow to feather.
