zebrafinch.com has a book that they sell that covers genetics, it's supposed to be pretty informative. I don't bother, it's too much work!

I think half the fun with these guys is seeing what hatches from the eggs, like you getting 2 white chicks, when I have no white birds!

congrats on a great hatch! I wish I had been so lucky, but I had a major problem with my bator on day 15

I love that you posted up so many pics- so amazing to see all the different colors!

The two I have at home now are the coturnix that look like pic #1 the normal wild or jumbo browns? I am jealous of your adorable cinnamon and the buttons are adorable!

congrats!

Thanks! We are having so much fun with these guys!! My DH ordered my some more buttons and I ended up with a total of 38 buttons, so I gave my best friend 6 for her son to enjoy watching grow up. They are growing so fast. . . every day we are on the phone telling each other stories of their antics. I was fortunate enough to get another blue face

The coturnix are growing so fast I have them in their own brooder now. I am going to take some more photos when everyone gets good feathering so we can compare what they grow into.

Very nice pictures! I usually separate and raise larger chicks together, and smaller ones together (so far as is possible at a given time), as this works best for me...

I agree that trying to study genetics on a mix like this is probably not going to be very useful to you...
