Coryza or ???

There are quite a few contagious respiratory diseases that have similar symptoms so it would be hard to know which one it is, unless you detect a rotten smell, then it could be Infectious Coryza.

I agree, unless you see an avian vet, you may not find one that knows a lot about chickens. This is why I suggest contacting your state diagnostic lab - most do know about poultry, because they perform necropsy, testing, etc. It depends on your state, but some of them also will accept a mucous sample to test without you having to send a bird in.

I'm in Texas....What lab?? I just found my beautiful roo dead in the coop. Since I'm not treating them right now....Will coryza kill them that fast? 2 dead so far....Out of 39.

I'm sorry for your loss.

It can kill fairly quickly. I would think hot weather would make having a respiratory much harder to deal with as well.

Thanks.....I'm gonna call them Monday morning to see what to do. I went out to the coop and watched them a while. I notice the bad ones standing up high on their legs...Not sitting like the others. Their eyes all seem shut tight and some are withdrawn into themselves if that makes sense. My other rooster had his head turned back resting in his feathers....My hospitalized ones are doing this too. Most of them have very very pale wattles and Combs. Some sound rattly but I'm not seeing any discharge and when I touch them they do open their eyes and try to move away from me. There is a definite smell that I can't describe in the coop and around the hospitalized hens. I wouldn't say rotten meat but it is a different distinct odor....And I completely cleaned out the coop a week ago. I hope this info and once I find out for sure what it is will be helpful to others. I feel devastated.

Ok question....From what I'm reading chicken coryza doesn't affect turkeys?? I have a huge old turkey in the coop...Who is sitting on chicken eggs too!! Well we nixed 9 hens this am who seemed the worst and I absolutely confirmed that my turkey is gurgling and sneezing too! So no

Oh no, that is terrible.

Whether there is a "cross-over" it's very hard to know.
Mycoplasma can affect all fowl.
There is also a Turkey Coryza (Avian bordetellosis) which can cross over to chickens and quail. But who knows what it is. I hope you can get some testing done ASAP.
