coryza

so what am I to do about my original hen then? Give the time to see if she shows symptoms or assume she already has it? I don't know if I could ever kill anything...I don't know what to do!!!! Is my duck for sure not an issue with this disease??? The man I got him from raises EVERYTHING....he had a load of chicks running around as well as many egg layers, quail and doves!!! What kind of person is this?! And he said his wife is a vet!!!!!!! Is it unheard of to have a bird euthanized?? I could do that over chopping a head off!!!

I'm sorry, I know nothing about ducks. As 'chickened' stated, if you wish...wait and see if symptoms develop...it's up to you. Just maintain a closed flock in the meantime.
Honestly Aries, this why I only buy day old chicks from reputable hatcheries...anything else and you dont know what you're getting. I'm not chastizing you...you had no idea and all good intentions, it happens like this sometimes and I'm sorry what's happening with you and your chickens. It's possible the breeder didnt know his flock was infected. I wouldnt go there personally, but I'd call him and let him know what happened. If you go there, you run the risk of possibly contaminating your shoes or clothes with some other disease and bringing it back to your place. You never know.

I think the worry of contaminating my clothes comes too late...the day I bought them, I walked around his chicken yard to help gather the ones I bought ( I swear none of the birds seemed or looked sick )....they've been in with my hen and duck already before removing them a day later. I just looked up more info on coryza and the spread of it...what does anyone know of oxine being used in the waterer? Also being misted in the pen weekly to keep the disease down....It seems the spread can be controlled by using oxine in the waterer...I would love to keep everyone and just see if they do ok considering I only have 2 hens and a rooster with a duck.

There are worse diseases, trust me. When you get a chance, check this link out and read through it.

I've never used oxine, but I understand it's good stuff and might be worth trying. You want to purchase Oxine(AH)...AH means Animal Health. The cheapest online that I have seen is at Revival Animal Health. Dosage is 6.5 ounces per gallon of water- fog the birds face and cage 3 times daily for 10 days. DO NOT use the activator. You will need a mister to dispense it. I've read that others have used a regular spray bottle with a fine mist.

AI artificial insemenation, I would give it a month to be sure. You can use oxine to disinfect and it works OK time is a better method and wash your waterers and feeders. I woud just call the guy and usually you know by his response if he was aware of the diseases. Ask about closed flocks next time and see what the breeders say or start from chicks or eggs Sorry for all your troubles
