I have 6 laying hens, 5: 1/2 Black Star and 1/2 Rhode Island Red and the other one is a Golden Sex hen. About 2 weeks ago 1 of my part Black Stars came down with what I figured out to be Coryza. I've kept her in a seperate cage fo almost that long now and have been giving them all Deralycyn for about a week 1/2 now. I've been giving my sick hen Vetericyn between 2 and 3 times a day. I can't find any information on weather it would be safe to put her back with my others or not. I would still be giving her Vetericyn while her eye is still swollen. It used to be that it was swollen shut, but know it's just really swollen. All my parcial Black Stars are about 1 1/2 years old, while my Golden Sex hen is about 4 months.

Could anyone help, please?

I'm currently attending a San Diego Community college in hopes in the long run to be a vet, so I would like to know as much as possible

Was there a bad smell associated with the signs of illness?

If not, you might want to reconsider the coryza diagnosis. Coryza notoriously is supposed to make a hen smell bad (the smell coming from the face).

There are diagnosis charts at the bottom of the webpage:

If truly a chronic respiratory disease like coryza, mycoplasma, etc. then they are carriers, even after the signs of illness go away. Please see this too:

Thanks allot for the info! I'll look more in it later on. No, she just has 1 swollen eye with a white ring around it that I think is slowly going down but ever so slowly. Ya, I saw a picture that looked allot like it on Google and my Aunt had me convinced that's what it is. I didn't want to just believe her so I did a little research of my own until my mom wasn't to happy with me that I didn't quite believe her good friend. The only thing that comes out of her eye is bubbly water when I clean it and put Vetericyn in it. Water that's sometimes yellow comes out her mouth when I hold her upside down. She also recently has been having watery poo over the past 3 days. Do you know anything about those symptoms? Again, thanks so much for the info. Well, it's about 11:00 my time. :)
