Apparently the silkies my brother brought home were carrying more than lice. Four of my hens have clear, smelly mucus coming from their noses. The affected hens also have bright yellow diarrhea. Only one seems to be acting sick, kind of lethargic with a dull comb.
We have 15 chicks in a brooder too, are they already infected by us touching them after the adults? Do we need to vaccinate? I would prefer to have a in-only flock rather than an completely closed flock if it is serious, is that feasible?
Also would Sulmet work to treat the symptoms? That's what we have on hand.

If you handled the chicks in the brooder, they may have already been exposed--a vaccine wouldn't help. Sulmet will treat coryza, a respiratory disease which may have a foul odor. However, if your silkies have CRD (mycoplasma) then Tylan or Duramycin10 would work (and Sulmet will not.) Can your brother call the seller to find out what they might have? It's always a good idea to quarentine new birds for 30 days and practice good biosecurity methods.

O kone of my BO is having Yellowish poo See Pic and we did have a sick hen but returned her the other day. I picked up some Vet rx for poultry and am going to dose the water and the flock and see if that clears up the poop and the boogers.

Vet rx

I'll let you know what happends...
