I was thinking of getting 12 meat chickens. How should I feed them? What does it cost to feed them for 8 weeks?

Hi mommyoftwo, 12 sounds like a good number to begin. You can feed them unmedicated chick starter for the whole time. Try to get something with 22%. Treat them like normal chickens. Plenty of room, feed 2 x a day and let them free range if possible. IMO. Others may vary but I ferment my feed and it saves money and my babies love it. Do you have chickens yet? I was a total beginner and watched the forum for 7 months before actually getting mine. A lot of research but it sure paid off.

10-12 cornish crosses has been the perfect number for me to raise in suburbia. They go through 1-40lb bag of chick feed and 1-40lb bag of grower or whatever you feed them after. I do fermented feed also--keeps the smell down and their droppings firm and not liquidy.
