I hatched a bunch of very healthy quail about 3 weeks ago, no problems with the ones that hatched, but a few duds in the 'bator...though very few

So fast forward about a week and a half, and I notice a stumble in one chick. It's very awake, it never stops, like literally it's always bumbling around... but it's too weak to push itself upright. I'm not sure what this means... I decided to try and give that specific chick a diet with an added dose of calcium (the chick starter has all the baseline nutrients in it tho) and it did the trick. The chick was able to get up and run, and soon I couldn't tell it apart from the others! So fast, and always chasing toes—uh, sorry, "worms"

I thought maybe it could eat what the others were now, since it was doing so well, but as soon as I stopped giving the supplementary calcium, back to square one :/

Do you think this chick just can't absorb it like the others, or is there an underlying issue, and this is a symptom of something more deleterious?

Bellas, that's a new one on me...I have no idea what's the underlying cause of this delima! Hope someone else here can suggest what maybe be going on with your chick. Maybe try some Nutri-Drench:confused: Hope it gets better.

thankyou, I really hope it ends up okay): it's so curious and intelligent, it breaks my heart to see it unable to explore like it's siblings

That is odd.. I think the latter to be honest. The fact that it recovers so immediately after you administer the extra stuff is crazy! Does it maybe have an absorption issue? Might be a life long problem.

My thoughts exactly! I know that deficiency in calcium can cause things to be weak, mainly from dairy cows, but I have seen it else where and it was the first thing that popped into my head...I thought "well, won't hurt to see" and i guess it's related bc I got results..strange. I want to take the poor sweetie to a vet but I must find someone who'll look at a small bird first
