I am new to quail with 17 chicks and 4 adult males (all different pens) I kept the males because I do not know what the chicks are yet. But holy cow when they crow they are loud is this normal for them to start before sunrise and after sunset? I might reconsider how many males I keep as they are really loud. it echos thru out my neighborhood

They are loud aren't they! That's when ours crow and I am pretty sure that there normal lol! Such a neat sound though!

They crow whenever they feel like it. I had a rooster crow all the time till he had plenty of hens. Only way to shut him up lol.

They are just really loud I was not expecting that.
Ha ha ha ha, I just bought a male today, he was on his own as his hens died. I bought him some hens today but they are too young at the moment. I thought their crow was quiet whoops! my neighbours wont like that

I have over 60 quail with many roos and I would definitely NOT say that they're loud! You can barely even hear them. The only time mine make any noise is when I feed them and when there's any type of commotion.

Thank god for that! you have put my mind at rest :)

If a coturnix rooster is "too loud" for you folks you can probably not keep any birds, cause ornamental birds like parakeets, love birds, or cockatiels are just as loud or louder than chirping of a coturnix rooster. I can only hear mine when I get closer to my pens.

To keep things in perspective did you have a privilege to listen to a chicken rooster crow lately? Or is your coturnix roo "crow" louder than your friendly neighbor dog barking?

LOL
