Coturnix Experts....

It's in the process of changing due to not being a Coturnix at all. I recommend checking out Jodi McDonald's book "A Closer Look on Button Quail"

Here's another source referring to Blue-breasted quail classification. They mention the classification is based on morphologic features and biochemical evidence. I think most research during the past 20 years has them this way. Personally, I like their original scientific name and would love to see them continue to be separated:)

I found what I believe is the "correct" scientific name for buttons," seenopointica toosmalltoeatus"

You can classify all you want, but don't be fooled by incorrect info out there....I mentioned the correct classification. Sorry to burst the bubble.

I smell what yer cookin' Bill. It's really a pointless argument. Those micro-critters are more canary than quail anyway. They're very similar to ornamental cabbage. Kinda neat to look at for a while but useless otherwise. I'm workin' on a plan though. Some people raise bobs to train dogs. Maybe there's a market for sellin' buttons to train barncats. I had no luck at all crossin' them to my "Siberian Colossal White-meat A&M's" in an attempt to produce a 2lb Button.
