HI all,

I have a pen of youngsters at just on 6 weeks. There are several obvious males (goldens) and a couple I'm not sure on (rosettas)- I'm getting one egg a day from that pen and I haven't seen either of the two "unknowns" crowing or being mated/mating others. Vent sexing isn't working for me as the definite males have not yet developed the bump so they look the same to my novice eyes as the suspected females.

Anyhoo, one keeps giving the little cricket-like chirp I have noticed in my other females, but I am not sure if this is enough to go on to be sure if it's a girl. Has anyone had a male who makes the little chirps too?

Thanks
B

One thing you can do, is to put one of the "unknowns" in a quarantine cage or put a divider into the cage to seperate it. This may be the only way. Then when you are certain, you can put a small zip tie on her leg to mark her.
