Know a lot about poultry and little about coturnix quail. I have noted as they age, their feet have a tendency to be ouchy every now and again. I raise and keep my birds on wire [I read in many places that the birds stay healthier on wire.]

Has anyone had this problem?

I am considering getting some Rabbit Resting Pads and see if that helps. Tractor Supply has them for $6.99 I have found them for $3.99,$3.48,$3.00 and at MartinsCages.com for $2.50. What a spread.

Any other ideas would be welcome.

With my coturnix I have them on wire, but they also have access to a litter box. Then they have a place to get up off the wire, and if you keep grit in there, they can dust bathe, get their calcium/grit substance, and it keeps their feet looking just fine. My birds love it. They also jump in there to lay their eggs (i have bedding instead of grit). I rarely get eggs on the wire since I have added the boxes.
