WOW! They are small! Niki, I figured out something cool! You know that red dog house I showed you: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=130732

Well
my friend, quailman, lives near me and he is interested in raising a few quail in the dog house with me. Then I would help him build a pen of his own that he could have at his house in the summer. He could then take his share of the quail to his house to raise for fun or meat or eggs! He said his dad would let him get 10 or 15.

Would it be alright if we got a bunch of Coturnix and mixed in a few bob whites and buttons with them?

Cody!!

bobwhites are very iffy to mix with coturnix and buttons. Supposedly they are normally very aggressive to other species even to themselves. HOwever, I know of many breeders in the UK who house both together with no problems. I assume it has to do with space? More space less chance of problems though I can't say for sure. Because of this is why I dont also raise bobwhites I just don't want the risk of birds getting injured or killed.

As for buttons, you can, I have, however I lost buttons due to bossy coturnix quails. Some wouldnt let my buttons in the selter part to stay warm, and they ended up dying out on the wire because they werent able to come into the warmth of the inner part of their hutch. Other than that the buttons got along great with the coturnix

However theres always exceptions. Coturnix can do serious damage to eachother so so can they to smaller button quails.

Thanks Niki! Is it hard to make hanging cages to keep seperate cages in? Have you seen any cages that hang in a coop on here?

Thanks!!

nah i can't see why it would be hard, I've made cages before for rabbits, hardware cloth and clamps and a clamp tool and you can make a nice square pen, and buy things like tupperware tubs as slide out trays for the falling poo it's possible
