Coturnix Picture time- Adults PIC HEAVY

I hope they are! Tomorrow if it's nice I'll take my Jumbo Golden male out (from SamG) and a normal golden male and I'll post em here to show you the big difference.

If yours are adult you can tell by weighing them. I forget the normally accepted weight range but if you go to my info post I hav eit posted. I know that Jumbos can get up to an lb in weight though less is normally more seen....most jumbos weigh under an lb. My one A & M hen JUSt might be a lb but i cant say for certain, she needs weighed. I think normals are something like 6 oz? But dont hold me to that it's on my educational post (in my sig) etched in stone (so if i forget i can look back at it lol)!

Well my Jumbos from PurpleChicken are 3 weeks old now and the goldens haven't made their debut yet, so I guess we will see.

Should I separate them according to color or does it really matter? Will the golden come through the wild color if I cross them?

If you want assorted colors and dont mind suprises then keep em together it really does not matter at all. I just personally love working with genetics so I am pairing my birds up according to what color I want.

Like white coturnix is a recessive color so if you breed it to another colored bird that doesnt carry the white gene, you wont get any white coturnix.

HOWEVER, you're in luck because Golden coturnix is dominant you WILL get several goldens in a flock of mixed colors, esp if you keep a golden male in there (to breed several colors).

Yes golden comes through wild very nicely. SamG had I think he said one golden hen in with his batch of jumbo browns, I got something like three eggs that were from his golden hen, only one made it and boy is he big and gorgeous.

ALso, it's *said* that breeding golden to golden can result in lossed hatches. However I know many that breed golden to golden and have no noticable loss in fertility or eggs. I plan to have a pen of just goldens, and a pen with a golden male and browns just to see what happens with fertility if anything at all.
