i'm getting some of the rely large quails.
they will be $18 (australian) a bird is that ok they will be sent from half way the other side of oz.

cheers youri.

Is that including shipping? I don't know what supply and demand is like there...but that seems a little expensive for around here. But, then again, a bird is worth what someone will pay for it...

Here in the USA shipping is the most costly.
If the birds add to your breding program and get the results you want then they are wel worth it....

I have spent a bit just to get some color intomy breeders.
Lots of fun!
Enjoy!!!!

yes that includs shipping.
i'm ordering with a few more pepal if i would just get one box by my self it would $23 to $25 a bird there are 5 females and one male in a box.

here in oz there are only a few places that you can get these really large quail because no one has them.

they are not as good for laying but still lay 5 eggs a week with no light.

some say these are better for meat then jumbos because these were crossed back to the cammon ones to get the jumbo.

but only came in one colour.

i'm going to breed lots and sell them as day old's for pepal to grow out and kill.

cheers youri.

AWESOME information in this post! Thanks!

Question about male quail calls / crowing

I just picked up 14 coturnix from a man who was unloading... they're about 5mo old and not laying yet. Found out when I went to get 'em that there were only 2 (maybe a 3rd) females for all the guys, and they were in a pretty small enclosure (which would explain the "no egg" thing). Right now I've got 2 pairs separated out, each in their own cage and have seen some mating "strutting" from the guys... but the rest of the guys are in a larger cage (2' x 2' x 7') all together. That being said I've only heard ONE of the guys crow in the last week... and he does it a lot (actually a bit less since I put him in with one of the girls). In the large cage, I hear a lot of growling, but no crowing.

I wondered if maybe it has something to do with an "alpha male" or "flock leader" kind of thing... any thoughts?

Mike

My first batch are about 4 weeks old, and the males just started to crow. Wow, what a unique sound.

if i cross a large meat quail that is a dark colour to pure white hens will i get any white quail?

i'm trying to get size up in the whites so i can use them for meat.

cheers youri.

No idea. I have a brown male and a white female so I will let you know what hatches out. They are due to hatch in a couple of days.
