Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

Any one near Daytona Beach / Palm coast have quail chicks for sale? Need d at least 5 female and 2 male. Looking for coturnix, not button :) willing to drive to meet / pick them up

Prefer young chicks but want for personal breeding population bcoz my boys loooooove quail eggs :) Was giving serious consideration to sneaking chicks in the bator and putting one over on the DH rofl

Edited to add: I don't mind having more than that if someone wants to sell in larger amounts, thats just the base amount I want to start with :)

CyndiChick, I bought five young quail at the waldo flea market two weeks ago. The guy was able to sex them, I got four girls and one boy. Plus I was able to get different colors. I have two wild, a tibetan, a gold italian, and a tuxedo male. $3 a piece.
Had them for about two weeks and they are now all laying :)
It's like an hour to an hour n a half from palm coast. I would check craigslist as well if you want something closer.

I will have to look into that :) I have time to go running around tomorrow so maybe I could find some then. Will also check craigslist. Appreciate it!

Dumb questions comin.....

Is it ok to breed the different colors . Or is is basically up to who the male likes? Lol is there a color chart on breeding cots somewhere ? I'm referring to Japanese... Not crossing types, just colors?
Thanks.

Is the theory of leg color on a laying chicken hen apply to quail as well?

I have 5 hens in with 1 roo. Only been getting 4 eggs. They are all about 12 weeks old. I know that it doesn't necessarily mean the same hens are consistently laying but short of separating all of them out... I wanted to know if I could tell by leg color?

Thanks

During mating season, are the roos like horndogs? My male won't leave the girls alone. Had to move one of the girls because he bloodied her head.
I think he blinded her. See has one eye that is closed.

Roos are like horndogs all the time. Let the hen heal up and she may still have sight in the eye. I had one so bad I didn't think the eye was even left in there. Once it all healed up you couldn't even tell what she had been through. Had another that lost both eyes just as quick. Quail are a riot.
