Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

i think that would cause more problems than help. if you are worried about their feet you could put hay at the bottom of the cage. but its alot more to clean out that way. i was a bit worried about my groups feet at first but they are all doing fine. lol they sleep in the dustbath all crammed into it.

I have found the coated wire is a lot better on their feet. Its usually a black epoxy coating, makes it easier to clean too. that wire is lasting a lot longer. I have one GQF breeding cage with it and still looks new. I also use 2 rabbit hutches and an old chicken transport cage with 4 cubes. All of the wire cages are degrading fast with the cleaning, and poop eating away at the metal

I still want to do a "coop" for them like a flight run, let them live a little more naturally.

Hi everyone,

Had my 1st run with hatching Quail this week. Had 50 Texas A&M eggs shipped from Vail's Quail. Lost half to being broken, cracked and not developing. So went into lockdown at day 14 with 25 eggs and had 24 hatch on day 17. Sure didn't expect such a good hatch after the rough time in shipping.

Let him know! He is pretty awesome, I have goldens and jumbos from him. He is very gracious. He replaced eggs at just shipping cost for me, if you tell him whats happened. (I had a full shipment of goldens that didn't hatch and he replaced them, just charged shipping cost.) Main thing is just be honest and polite... of course. Most breeders are willing to make things right if you let them correct the problem without angry words. I sell a lot of hatching eggs too, and always want my customers to be pleased. I try to double their purchase if I have the eggs! But I also make sure they have the room for them in the incubator.
Congrats on the babies

I did and he is very nice. I don't guess they check e-mail often, it can go days for a reply. Even if all 50 had gone into the incubator, getting 24 hatched was going to be more than I expected so I am really happy with putting 25 eggs in and getting 24 out. I wish he'd double box but sometimes no amount of packing will stand up to shipping... I ship alot of eggs myself but I don't think chicken eggs are near as delicate as the quail eggs. I have a set of Snowflake eggs being shipped tomorrow and he said he'd add more A&M's to that box. Overall I am more than happy with my hatch and would buy from him again.

Thanks! Yes so very tiny! I'll be more comfortable with them when they reach day old chicken chick size!

they are very hardy chicks. And grow so fast! I have about 90 now and need to process some. I love the goldens colors. Have a hard time with them. My reds gets really big, I have several set back for breeding.
