Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

I'd love some, and it will be a good infusion of new blood into my stock. I have incubator #1 held open for three sets of eggs that are due in this coming week, and have incubator #2 (my quail hatching workhorse) shut down briefly for maintenance and upgrades. Will you still have some that need hatching next week? I can pay ahead of time, but want to make sure I have my incubator back up and calibrated (I'm replacing the temperature control module) so that the eggs are not hanging out after shipping, which will artificially reduce your fertility rate, PM me!
I just noticed that you're in NY... I have never shipped eggs before so I don't really know where to get the packaging material. However, it seems I will always have eggs!!!! lol

LOL! Those small USPS cube shaped flat rate express mail boxes work well for little teeny quail eggs. Most places who have shipped to me use a combination of bubble wrap around each egg, egg cartons or foam rubber, packing peanuts or a ton more bubble wrap around that, and double box using a smaller box to hold the eggs placed with more padding in the bigger box. I'll totally pay for any packaging material you may need along with the shipping costs. I believe there is a whole egg shipping thread in the forums. I should have my quail incubator back up in a week or so depending on how fast the temperature control unit comes in. I am always happy to see new colors and patterns - I worked on getting nicer tuxedos on my fawn birds last year, and will be continuing that this year, in addition to hoping I will get another blue egg so I can work on that line as well. The more varied my genetics are, the more I can do with my birds!

By the way, I love your setup for your breeders!!!!

Just about 4 weeks left until the event. Many people should have a good idea of what they will be bringing or what they may be looking for. Please keep your posts updated as your situations change, so I can share them on other sites. For those who have items or themed baskets for the Raffle please PM me so I can make a list and seek out other donations from local companies. I can't wait to see old friends again and to meet new friends. CCP/BYC people are some of the best (and craziest) people to know. Last year we had close to 475 people show up, let's see if we can get 500!!! If you would like to purchase a personalized collectible name tag, please PM, they are $1 each. They come in a plastic badge holder to pin on or hang around the neck.

Do young males who this would be their first mating season wait to mate even after the young female has started laying? I keep putting eggs I find in an incubator but Ive yet to get ay development of the eggs. It has been over two months now that I have been finding eggs and I have not noticed any mating activity between them. I was given what was supposed to be a pair and the apparent male has the rust coloring on its chest while the apparent female has the white with brown speckles. Also, ive found that they love to bury themselves in some curly straw I put in there outdoor natural pen for day time. The hen spends more time out and about eating while the male will stay buried as if sitting on eggs for most of the day. They have two spots where they lay their eggs so there is not one definite nest so to speak. I dont think that they are brooding eggs but if they did wold the male be involved in the brooding process?
I have left the eggs to see if they continue to lay in the same spot and sometime I gather the eggs for the incubator. It doesnt seem like I get any more than one egg per day. I do bring them inside at night for their safety so any eggs that they may have brooded during the day would get cold at night.

Coturnix eggs will be painted nearly the same by each bird each day. Do the eggs you are getting all look the same or are the spots a lot different in color and shape? Can you post a picture of the birds and the eggs?
