Coturnix quail in winter

I live in Montana and mine are outside during the winter in my old rabbit cages. I do put straw/alfalfa down as bedding and they have overhead shelter to stay dry. Have never lost one to the weather.

My quail are on the ground. To keep themselves cool in the summer, they burrow deep in the straw until they find cool dirt and then scratch themselves a nice little shallow spot to lay in. It is so funny coming home to little straw teepees all over the place

For winter, more fresh straw plus they do have a hutch with solid walls and a roof. I also put lots of straw in there. It's so comfy apparently that one of the crazy coturnix decided to go broody in it

oh yeah, the heat has made me forget that I keep pine bedding in their house during the winter. I try to keep a few inches in the little shelter that is inside their hutch. I also put in a floor over 1/2 of the wire, just to keep the drafts down.

I'm brand new to raising quail and I would also like to know what to do about the watering in the winter. For my rabbits, I use a bird bath deicer and a small circulatory pump. Will this set up work for quail while using the push in style watering nipples?

Even if the water temp is kept above freezing and the water is kept moving with a pump? I don't have an issue with my rabbits as long as they're protected from a breeze. But the nipples could be different and the breath from the rabbits might thaw the nipples enough to keep working.

Just cover them from drafts it gets cold up here and when I used to raise them they stayed fine. I used to use the BBQ grill covers those worked perfectly if I thought it was extra cold I put in a brooder light.
