Coturnix quail in winter

Well, they're native to places like Hokaido, North Korea, Manchuria, parts of Siberia, where it gets REALLY cold, I would think they'd be ok with an Illinois winter if they have adequate shelter.

This will be my quail's first winter outdoors, but we don't get as cold as you do. From what I have read and been told, the key is to protect them from drafts.

If they are outside now, I wouldn't worry about it. They will develope winter feathers. Do make sure there is an area that keeps the drafts away. Have fun changing out their ice water!

I'll probably remember this image next January when the air temp is -14 and the windchill is -35 and I'm toting gallon jugs of water to the birds.
