I raise both Bob's & coturnix. My coturnix are laid back. The Bob's are wild. You could probably calm the Bob's down some if raised in a smaller pen I guess. Mine are in a big pen & will have nothing to do with me.

Yeah , my white coturnix quail are quite friendly, like a chicken, they will follow me around and let my pet them and they are so fat that they aren't very great at flying, so if they get out they won't be able to escape very easily.Oh, darn it. I was hoping they would be as friendly as my chickens. I'll have to make sure this is what I would like to do.
I've heard that "the wild color quail are skitish while the white are as friendly as kittens" - Does anyone notice a different of the personality of different colors?
Yeah, the white coturnix quail are very very calm in my experience, my white coturnix will run right up to me and let me pet them, they act more like a pet then most other quails in my opinion. YES the wild type ones are a LOT more skittish than the white ones, if my wild type ones get out usually I never see them again, they are VERY good flyers, mine can easily fly up to 300 feet in one flush, but my white coturnix can barely fly 10ft away because of how FAT they are , but yeah so anyways I would say the white coturnix are probably your best option. I hope this helps!!Oh, darn it. I was hoping they would be as friendly as my chickens. I'll have to make sure this is what I would like to do.

The brown ones are also very skittish to in my experience but not quite as skittish as the wild type ones.
Hope that helps!!
