Coturnix quail

So what is the average price for a single quail? What does everyone here(BYC) get for their quail? What is the price for a live bird and what it the price for a processed bird?

We have quite an Oriental population around here, and I think they would love them. We were just given 97 A&M Giant White Coturnix quail eggs. We just planned on eating them ourselves, but I read that Asians really favor them and we sit right next to a large military base. Opportunity knocking maybe? LOL I do not know what to price them at though. I do not know of anyone else in the area that raises them, then again I haven't looked.

I would say up to 14 days is okay to set them.....before incubating...but they need to be stored in a cool dark place with good humidity.

Thanks Sam.

Kim, I'd like to know, too. I haven't actually sold any birds yet, but that $30/pair sounds sweet! I have a gal in Homer that wants a dozen of my 2 week coturnix, but I hadn't come up with a price yet. I'll have to let you know.

I think Tori started the coturnix quail fever here lol. I was planning on just raising bobwhites until she started talking about her adventures hatching the coturnix. Now I'm trying to get all the corty colors.

As far as laying...I think I've heard it is up to 3 years, some lay till death.

edited to add:

I'm getting $2 a chick for regular brown coturnix. I've been holding out from selling the specialty colors until I get a couple breeding trios of each.

Oh, now don't go blaming this on me, Ace... you know you wanted them. I'm just a scapegoat!

But the coturnix are so much fun to raise. Mine are only 2 weeks old, but SO much nicer than the bobwhites or buttons. Very friendly and personable.

I just don't know how much they go for up here. I was thinking $3-4 each, but maybe that's not enough?

Mine are 7 wks old this week. A couple have been laying for about a week but their last few eggs have been soft shelled. They sell them for about $3 or $4 here, I'd love to get $30 for a pair!! What kind do you have? I think I have just the regular brown ones.

Mine are just plain Jane Coturnix I think. I have no idea what the actual going price is, but when I pretty much jokingly said 30 bucks a pair and she got happy about it I started to wonder. I'm going to check around today, but there is no one advertising Quail anywhere that I kind find around here.

LOL. Yeah...you've been trying to push them on Miss Prissy lol. Waving pics. Next thing we'll see you say the first one is free but after that... I start charging. Hehe.

But seriously if your quail are only 2 weeks that means I started incubating before you. My manchurians are a month now I think. Yeah matter of fact tomorrow they turn a month. The bobwhites are five weeks.

I hate to admit but I'm struggle with the thought of eating the three regular coturnix that got put in with the manchurians. I keep thinking I have some week old ones in the brooder but these are just a couple weeks from possibly laying. Then I think how good they taste lol.
