Coturnix Tuxedoes

I am also interested in the tuxes....both button and coturnix! They are such an interesting color -- never heard of someone not liking them!
I also hadn't heard of them having any serious health problems...until this post at least.

I don't see any reason to cull them.

Anyhow, looks like you got more than enough reasons here.

Same here, the tuxedos and ranges sell for twice what the browns sell for. One reason not to cull

But you can't line breed them Shelly. I know people like them, but you can't sell people "tuxedo eggs" because you just can't guarantee that!

Well i don't breed the tux's I sell them.
and you can sell tux eggs with the understanding that some might be other colors as long as your breeder covey is male 1 color females the other color. One of my breeders is a Tibetan male with white females. The eggs hatch about 2/3rd pied/tux and 1/3rd solids. (I am still recording hatch rates / color rates from this group)

You probably already know all this but just saying

Well yes, a coturnix is a coturnix is a coturnix, but these puppies have broken the bank. They tipped the scale on abnormalities and will be terminated, the same way the cross beak stock was terminated.

This will be a spring revaluation thing.

1000 chicks fine on current bedding. It's not really a bedding issue IMHO. I can't put my finger on it yet, but I'm working on it.

If you cross a tux to a white you will get mostly tuxedos. I sell mixed eggs, but if someone wants a certaint color all they have to do is ask. Oh, and Quail Lady I just hatched some from my mixed colony cage, and now I have about 20 tuxedos. I am still looking for some more whites and some fawns if you have any. I still have no idea how I got so many tuxedos in this last batch. I guess putting more whites in the cage helped a lot. Or maybee I just got lucky.
