Cough

So I just got myself 2 new ready to lay leghorns. They look like they were debeaked when they were young. Their combs are huge, but pale and floppy. They are coughing and sneezing, and sound like they are constantly snoring. They are very shy, but still have a small appetite for layer crumbles.

Couple of days in the sun should redden their combs, and I think leghorns have sideswept (?) combs. Coughing, sneezing and sounding like they’re snoring sounds like a respiratory issue, can you upload a video of it?

I feel like leghorns are sometimes a sickly breed. I have raised several healthy leghorns from chicks, but all the ones I get as adults seem droopy and sickly. The droopy comb is normal (note my avatar). The two I got as adults did not live long, one died, the other was pecked on until we had to put her down. Hopefully you have better luck!

Sounds like you may have bought birds who have a respiratory disease, such as mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG.) I would take them back. If you have other chickens or plan to get more birds, these will make the other sick. Tylan 50 injectable can help treat symptoms, but will not cure them of being carriers for life. There are other diseases as well including coryza, ILT, and infectious bronchitis. If their combs are pale, they may not be laying or possibly nearing a molt. MG can decrease laying. If you want some layers, I would get some new baby chicks from a hatchery or feed store, and they would be laying at around 5-6 months old.
