For the past 6 days my one year old chicken has been coughing, kinda sounds like a chest cold. Her poop looks fine and I have seen no mucus coming from her nose. I am going on day 5 of treating here with Agrimycin-343. For the first two days I did 1/2 teaspoon per quart. And the last three days I did 1/4 teaspoon per quart. She seemed sick the first 3 days but now she does seem to have her spirt back and she did lay an egg yesterday. But there has been no improvement with the rattle in her chest. No one else in my flock has gotten it, and I have been keeping them separated. I regularly give my girls apple cider vinegar and a probiotic powder. So my question is does anyone have any other suggestions? May I be treating this wrong? Has anyone experienced the Agrimicyn 343 taking the full 7 days to clear up the cough? Last case scenario I will be taking her to the vet, though in Los Angeles there is not much help for that.

I don’t have any experience with agrimycin, but oxytetracycline can be used to treat mycoplasma (MG.) The dosage I have seen in posts seems to be 1/2 tsp per gallon of water, so you should have been giving enough. It sounds like you are having some improvement, so I would continue the whole 7 days. It think you can even give it up to 14 days, as well. Sometimes MG can be complicated by viruses such as infectious bronchitis and others. Viruses have to run their course, and do not respond to antibiotics.

It is hard to know for sure what you are treating anyway without testing. MG may cause bubbles in an eye, and sinus infection, so there can be swelling in an eye or the face. Tylan 50 injectable is very good for treatment of MG. It can be given orally after removing the needle from the syringe. Dosage is 1/4 ml 3 times a day for 3-5 days.

The cough cleared going to search for how long I should throw her eggs out. Though she laid one odd egg 5 days ago (small, long oval, thin shell)and has not laid since. Guessing her body needs to heal from the antibiotics.

I have read a study that says it clears the egg in 9 days, but I would wait 14 days after completion of the oxytetracycline (Agrimycin) to use her eggs.

So I got her cough cleared up. But it has been over 6 weeks since she has laid an egg. Her poop is looking weird, pics posted I thought it looks like egg in the poop. I dewormed her. She looks like she lost weight. She was barely eating for awhile, I just finally got her eating good. She looks like she is getting better but I catch her nodding out standing up during the day in the middle of the run. So it seems like I have improvement but just not sure how to get her back to being 100%. She seems happy and has claimed back her dominance. Any other ideas for treatment?
I have to add that she is the last of my unvaccinated chickens. I lost everyone but her to mereks last year. I now only have vaccinated hens and teenager, so we can claim her as a mereks survivor. I feel like the nodding out in the field and bad poop was a big part of my mereks outbreak. But I had read something else’s about a respiratory infection infecting the reproductive system??? Poop pics are from before I dewormed, im probably going to find some new ones from today to post
