Ive been noticing a couple of my 14wk old pekin ducks cough every now and then. Its not all the time though. Just maybe once or twice a day that I notice. Is it normal for them to cough every now and then? Should I do the tetracycline in the water to all 6 ducks? I just don't know whether they need antibiotics or not but I don't want it to get worse if it was something? Please help

How about some back ground, where are you keeping them, is the bedding dusty? feed dusty? do they have access to outside at all? kept in a brooder etc? what type of bedding are you using? it may not be nothing but dust but instead of going for the antibiotics right off try putting some ACV in their drinking water. 1-2 Tab to 1 gal of water. it works as an antibacterial and tonic. and make sure they have a bucket or bowl deep enough to dunk their heads in very important for ducks health

They are kept in a outside pen during the day which is grassy and are locked up in a shed for bight time, they have a huge baby pool and another bucket outside as well as one inside the duck house. The food is crumbles so that could be dusty, I use the fine pine shavings for bedding inside the duck house which is probably dusty. I do have vet Rx handy , is that OK to use too? I have ACV with mother in it,is that the one to use? Thanks

Yes use the one with the mother in it, and I'd put the vet RX on in the evenings when time to go to bed so they don't wash it off. just a tiny dab, but if you use fine pine shaving that's like saw dust, that maybe your culprit. I use to use that too but now use the flake not near as dusty as the fine. Hope that's all it is and a quick fix. They really don't need a water bucket inside at night especially if your going to treat with the RX. also watch for mold because water and shaving can turn real quick into a moldy mess. another reason most of us don't put food and water inside after 6 weeks old.
