Could bantams have a special exemption from a zoning ruling disallowing chickens?

Since they are not raised for meat or eggs but instead for pets and show Im wondering....
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this subject? Id love to start a discussion on this subject.

I think going the "they are just pets" route is the wrong way to go. They can regulate you to death over a pet, going so far as to open a Pandora's Box to registration, licensing, vaccination requirements, etc.

Most states have passed "Right to Farm" legislation which essentially makes "farmers" exempt from local ordinances or suits arising from normal "farm related nuisances" or "trespasses" (sounds, odors, etc).

Most of these acts only loosely define the term farmer. Poultry are almost always included.

It could be argued that selling a few eggs for consumption, for hatching or chicks each year for breeding stock constitutes "farming", even if done only a very small scale.
