Could chickens catch a cold from being out in the rain

What if the coop is not draft free? I didn’t have a chance to get that done for them before I left so I guess I need to do that when I’m back. Today is the only day it rained. Do you honk they will be ok??

This is a dead thread from back in 2012; FYI... but to answer your question, drafts can be really bad for birds, but ventilation is very good. There's a fine line between the two. If your in the northern hemisphere and winter is coming on, I'd make sure you plug any drafts quickly.

It's been raining steadily here since about 9:00 this morn, I opened the pen up around 7:30 when I fed them, but all day long I've seen them out in the rain....

Unless you are into bathing your chickens like they were human infants and sripping the natural oil from their feathers, your chickens will be fine.

In fact you can observe your birds and find out if the rain will last all day or if fair weather is just around the corner. Chickens that forage in the rain are expecting the rain to continue to dark.
