Could it be Cocci? 5 week old chicks puffed up seem sleepy Need Help!

The other thing that a Silkie breeder told me about that REALLY WORKS is powdered milk. It coats their stomachs...

The thing I understand about Corid is that it is much easier on the system than the Sulmet.

I know that makes it all confusing but if the chicks are in very bad shape maybe the Corid (being less sressful on their body) would be best to start with.
This is just is a suggestion but in truth I may be wrong.

Sorry I have not posted sooner I have been with my babies all day. I lost 1 lavender baby and 1 splash...I am so heartbroken. The other 5 still seem to be sick they have been treated all day with sulmet.

Three seem to be doing better and two seem so weak all 5 are eating and drinking but still puffed up and sleep.

I have also been keeping them covered in the dark it seems to help them get better they like its relaxing no one is crying. I am going to try the sugar water tomorrow. This is only the 2nd time I have fought cocci the 1st time I lost I lost all three of the sick babies. I did not have sulmet then till the last min and it was too late. This time I started treatment as soon as I noticed them acting weird I guess it was just to late for the 2 I lost. I hope I win this fight....I don't wanna lose my babies I have waited a year for these Lavenders and its been so hard to get them and so much money I spent. I think I am gonna go lay in bed and cry now.

I would hate to start putting a price tag on my losses so far.

I feel so bad for them. All puffed up and the sadness in their eyes. I chekc on them at least 8 times a day if not more. I hope you dont have any more losses either.

Sorry, I didn't mean really mean "only cocci" I just thought it would be easier to control than an airborne illness that would probably spread from pen to pen. Also, when i was told that my 3 Ameraucana chicks may have given the other chicks a disease, I was also told that those chicks were probably carriers and even if I got rid of the illness now I would continue to have outbreaks from time to time... I was advised to get rid of the Ameraucanas ASAP. I don't want to do that, but these chicken diseases are so scary. I am building up a medicine chest full of chicken meds. However, this time, just because I couldn't get Sulmet, I had to make up my own treatments, and you know, I think they helped because they are almost 100% now...I hope, it's a little early to feel safe yet. I wanted to treat with Sulmet , but couldn't find it, I did call Country Max in East Syracuse and they said they didn't carry it, they didn't even seem to know what I was talking about. So, I just got my Sulmet in the mail, i saw a bit of blood in some poop this morning so I'm going to use it, the question now is do i need to take them off the med chick starter that has amprolium in it? I would think so?
I'm really sad you guys are losing chicks, I don't know much about chickens but giving them a mash of kefir, lots of finely ground garlic scapes(garlic would probably work too), honey, and oats seemed to help mine. I ground oats into a powder and sprinkled it on top to get them started eating it ( I give them groung oats to prevent pasty butt when they are small and they love it, so they recognized that as a treat and that got them going on the special mash). I also had VERM-X on hand that is really an herbal treatment to prevent worms but it has lots of good stuff in it, so, I thought it might help in their water. I also put a couple of drops of VET-RX in the tray of the water, it is oily and floats and a bit gets on their beaks, it has camphor, balsam , origanum and rosemary oils in it. It's smelly and i think it might have woken them up a little. I rubbed some directly on the chick's beak that was the worst off. I had these herbal remedies on hand beacuse I'm trying not to medicate too much. I think my treatments tided them over until today when they are finally going to get the Sulmet to put an end to this cocci, I hope!

Update:

I did not lose any babies today all ate and drank today still treating with sulemt and keeping them in the dark. three of the 5 are looking 80% better but I still have two that look still badly but they are still eating and drinking.

I have about the same news. No losses today. Everyone is on day 3 of Corid. Some of my younger chicks are doing better. I have one who is not as puffed up any more. I fed everyone mash yesterday and today with yogurt. I ran out of yogurt so I have to get some more tomorrow. After the treatment I am going to put the vinager in their water. Does it have to be apple cider? Because I think I only have white. I really feel like the yogurt mash is helping. Its encouraging those to eat who otherwise would not since its so yummy.

I am so glad yours are doing better as well. Maybe the worse is over for us?
