I picked this chick up from the feed store and she was the only one left in a bin labeled "black Moran pullets" because she was pretty sickly looking. I was kind of hoping they meant maran but she was a dollar so I took a chance. I asked the employees and they had no idea. Recently she has developed copper colored feathers around her neck. She also has feathered feet. She also has a bit of brown at the bottoms of her wing area.

Is it possible that my Yolanda is a black copper maran? I'm so excited if it's possible but I was also wondering what other breed has these traits so I can educate myself. Also I know she looks like a roo but my SLW had a big red comb at this age too and turned out to be a hen so I'm not worried yet.

Thank you!

It could be a BCM... Marans is always with an S. ;)

It isn't the comb that screams boy... it's the waddles and body shape. :hmm

The brown at the bottom of the wing is just color leakage on this one. Different from the brown on the bottom of wheaten.

Cute little cockerel. :love
