Could my 5 month old hen be broody already?

My hens just barely started laying, and now she doesn't want to leave the nest, even though there is only a plastic egg in there.

I would not be surprised. My hen first became broody at approximately six months of age.

Does she fluff up and make angry noises when you get too close? Is her stomach featherless? If so, you have a broody on your hands. Most don't start that young, but it is possible.

x2 and what breed is your hen? I had a silkie that went broody a couple weeks after she started laying and was routinely determined to keep her eggs and hatch them!
