I have 2 buff orpington hens that r about to start laying for their 1st time any day, I went out to check for eggs and found a tiny white egg about the size of a golf ball. I cracked it open to see if there was yolk and there was. But my question is could they lay a white egg it being their 1st time. I do have a mature white leghorn that has been laying for over a year.

I don't think so, unless they are actually mixes. All my buffs that I had laid cream or brown colored eggs. It was probably just a weird egg laid by the Leghorn.

Chances are the tiny white egg is from your leghorn, who may be ramping down production for molting and winter break,...if you live in the northern hemisphere.

Had a totally isolated Lav Orp.lay a pure white egg today in her brood box along with the rest of her nice brown ones!!!It looks as normal and white as a Leghorn egg
