Mine also freak out when it's dark out. My husband put a light on the back of the house that lights up the yard and mounted solar spot lights to shine on their pool. I bought 3 sets of small led string lights and have them mounted with 3M hooks around the inside of the house. They are on timers so they come in when it gets dark and I have them on cycles so they have a bit of light while it's night time.
