We have 8 month old RIR's. Today when I let them into the run One came out ate and drank while I cleaned the coop. All the eggs were layed this morning. After I was done I left the back door to the coop open (never leave it open except when I am cleaning) but I was out in the run helping my husband put a top over the run One of the chickens went and layed on the eggs for maybe 2 hours. Never seen any do this before. Her crop is good, good red colored comb, eating and drinking. She came out amd had a dust bath and went back to foraging around the run. Is this normal for them to lay on eggs or could it be the beginning of broody behavior?

She'll stop laying if she's broody, and probably be screeching at anyone who comes near...Some hens/pullets like to lounge in the nests, that may be all it is. But this could be a sign of pending broodiness. I had an RIR that went broody a lot. If you don't want her to hatch eggs, you could read any of several threads on breaking a broody hen......
