Sadly, the little one did not make it.

After being warmed up she enthusiastically started to climb on her humons shoulders, eating, drinking and poopin' all over us but then at about 7pm she suddenly lost her balance, could not stand on her legs did not want to eat or drink anymore and quietly slipped away at about 9pm. Rest in peace little Snuggles.

Finally, i can come back to this: I have not received an answer from Metzer Farms until Monday 1st of August so i called the number on their web-site and …
I felt a bit embarrassed by the lecture of the customer relationship lady, lecturing me that the duckling was just a "runt" and that John Metzer has written several blog entries about how to save runt ducklings… Surely i do not have the same amount of years of experience as Mr. Metzer, but during the last four years i have learned a lot. I raised ducklings in the depth of winter and during incline weather in fall, saved mistreated ones and watched ducks hatching and raising ducklings four times. I do not appreciate being lectured about runt ducklings!

Anyways, Metzer Farms was willing to replace the Buff Orpington duckling and send it free of charge together with a mystery duckling. - So mysterious that not even the gender can be determined… - As y'all know, for me the chances are 90 to 10 to receive a drakeling, i said no thank you to the mystery duckling and paid for two mystery ducklings (female!) for $20.

So, sometimes next week three new little ducklings will arrive here…

Hopefully by that time i have the other nine living outside…

Or i will go insane!

Good Grief! - Metzer Farms has shipped the three ducklings today!
I received an e-mail that there might be delays in the shipments this week, but obviously not for my ducklings…
I need to think what else i could use as a brooder for three ducklings for a week!

Just keep the newbies in a plastic tub with a heat lamp. They will be fine for a week until they move up into your brooder as the other 9 move outside!
