I ordered 6 chocolate orpington bantam hatching eggs, from a choc to choc breeding. .

Anyway, 4 didnt make it to lockdown.. but the two that did, hatched as these????

Any ideas on what they could be?

I guess I've either been ripped off or the eggs were mixed up when the seller shipped them!?

They look like buff orps to me. I'm pretty sure chocolate chicks are more brown colored, although I've never seen one in person.

Maaaybe they'll turn chocolate as time goes on??? Kinda like black chicks do?

What does the person you got them from say?

According to the Genetics of Chicken Colours book, Chocolate to Chocolate should produce Chocolate. And the chick should be brown in color.

Thanks guys.

Hippichick, do you know what chocolate to buff would produce?

I noticed he was advertising buff orp eggs as 'coming soon', so perhaps one got in with the chocs or something?

The breeder has not answered my calls or emails yet, so I'm none the wiser, lol.

PS. these are what he normally hatches & are what I was expecting.....

Not sure about Choc to Buff, but maybe that's what happened. Those definitely look like buffs. Hopefully our Genetics people will chime in. I surely hope you can get in touch with him and he'll make it good. I know those eggs could not have been cheap.
