Oh- that is sooo cute! What do frizzles feel like? I know my cochins are "softer" feathered than my other birds, but I've never seen/touched a frizzle in real life.

Mine are very soft, but my "sizzles" are the softest birds I have. I have a regular cochin also and I think these are softer.

I would sleep on this bird if she let me:

I dont know if that is true either because the one i posted is a double frizzle and the babies she hatched when i rescued her were fathered by a frizzle rooster......and the babies are just regular frizzles

So i have a feeling there is more to it than that.......but i dont know what it is

"Breed Tips
Frizzle Chickens are bred principally for exhibition, but capable of being good productive fowl. The skin is yellow and the eggs shells are brown. They can be short fused in the males. It is noteworthy that crossing frizzles to frizzle for too many generations produces an over frizzled bird. It is therefore useful to keep a smooth feathered bird that contains frizzle genes to breed with the main stock."

"Thus, the reason for not breeding Frizzle to Frizzle: It causes the bird to have less feather follicles and thus will cause the bird to come out with a dozen feathers and be bald over the body and intolerant of the sun or the cold weather. Curlys are a no-no in the Frizzle breeding.

Frizzle breeding is simple: use the smooth half-Frizzle pullets that come out each year. Use a good male Frizzle on these smooth half-Frizzle females and you have the battle won, as far as it goes for keeping good curl on the head feathers and the body feathers."

He is Super Soft, even with all the missing feathers. I am hoping that he is just in molt and grows them all back in...hes rather freaky looking right now and i feel bad for his sunburned parts!

he's seemed to calm down a lot now since i moved him otu of quarantine and in with the other birds. doesnt bother anyone and snuggles right up with the babies....

his colors are gorgeous so i might keep him. i already have a really pretty black frizzle roo but i'll get more color variety out of this guy with the cochin girls. im still thinking about it though!

Lurky, uhh,..... thats not a frizzle, its a ............... poodle!!
