Sadly I lost one of my Appleyard ducks to a predator.
So, I decided to get another duck to fill the void. I arranged to buy an Appleyard duck from Craig's list. Ok, maybe not the smartest. But, the lady whom I bought the duck from said the she lost the drake Appleyard to a predator and didn't plan to breed her "show quality" Appleyard duck anyway, so she was selling her. I got the duck in my car in a box (I only briefly looked at her) and took her home. When we took "her" out of the box, we noticed that she is pretty big, her coloring was a bit drake-like, and she doesn't quack. She sounds more like a drake. I texted the lady I got her from, and she did respond. She insists this is a female. After some minimal nipping and pecking at each other, "she" seems to be getting along ok with my 2 other ducks and drake.
I am new to duck raising, so does this happen often? I am including a pic so that you all can see this "duck". If this is a drake, I will have to give him away or eat him.
