Could this design really house six chickens?

Is your coop very close to your house? I wish ours was closer to ours! Your setup looks well built!

The RIR hens coop is next to the house and their yard is fenced in using the house as part of the fence. The Cinnamon Queen hens is just next door to the RIR hen yard.

While I was building the run for the Cinnamon Queen hens they had a dog kennel to watch me work through the pop door.

Finally got the roof on... (work by myself).

A temporary corral for the chicks so they could get outside while I worked.

Finally almost done (need a couple more rolls of 1" x 1" cage wire but there is none to be found.

Looks great! Nice to have the trees around like that for shade.

We downloaded the design specs. For this model back in March and it is how we had built our coop- except we doubled everything thinking it would fit six comfortably. This website says that the original design size can house six chickens, it just seems way small for six- even ours where the size is double seems tight sometimes for our big breeds. What do you think? Thank you.
Its very cute. I think they are using the minimum requirements for Bantams not for large chickens. Kind of like RVs. They say sleeps 6 but they must be talking about children not adults. You’re lucky to fit 3 comfortably. Rule of thumb is 2.5-4 sf per chicken. The smaller suze for the smaller breed chickens. If you have Jersey Giants they are going to need more space than the max.

Ya the price is crazy! We found the model specs. Online for free. I believe it's called the Ana White model. We like the run but regret building the coop using this design. It's hard to clean, hard to reach in to do anything, and the door in the floor in the middle is annoying to open. We were so new when we built it, basically saw a design that looked nice and went with it. If I could go back in time I would still build a raised coop but much larger, with ease of access.
You could build your own with some plans for free from the library or YouTube. You pay a premium to have wverything precut.

Only if you are going to let them out to free range. The small space below won’t be sufficient for 6 full size chickens - they will pick on the low pecking order chickens.

My daughters commercial purchased house is tiny (IMO) but the chickens spent more time in the large run or outside anyway. You’ve solved the space prob by dbl the space. Still, give them more outside space if you can.

I think doubling the coop portion makes that big enough, but the run would still be quite small if you confine them there all the time.

That looks way too small for 6 chickens to me...more like for 3, or for a chicken tractor. It looks like you have land around it, so I would build a bigger run around the whole thing and lock them in the unit you've shown here at night for protection. Good luck!

Thanks, we doubled the size of the coop and made the run 17x5
