Could we do a "waitin' for eggs" rollcall?

Well my black hen started giving me eggs and I'm so happy!!

6 wyandottes and 1 silkie pullet--18 weeks old. Two BRs--10 weeks old. 2 Goosies--10 weeks old. (Geese only lay in the winter? So will I have to wait until next winter for them to lay??)

We bought "40" day old pullets on April 15 2007 and at 21 weeks which was last week, one started laying daily and now a week later we have 4 laying. The other 36 will lay when they fele like it I guess. I have another 22 Pullets that are 9 weeks old and have a while for them to get with the program. We stopped buying eggs last week. I just realized that I bought them a day before I found this site.

I have 26 hens of various breeds that are 18.5 weeks. No eggs yet, though both DH and I are checking a couple times a day (I think he sneaks home from work during the day to check but won't admit it) lol.
The daylight is getting so much shorter-I'm not holding my breath for eggs anytime soon. So off to the store we go....

Almost 16 weeks, so I'm starting to think of putting nest boxes in soon? I know it COULD be soon, or it could be a while.

At least my ducks give me 2 eggs a day now, so I haven't had to buy for over a week.

I hope the shorter days don't mean I've wasted the whole year. Guess we'll have to see. I wanted to order them sooner but it didn't work out that way.

Hi Frank, and welcome to the board!

I'm afraid I don't have answers for you though. I do know that usually sexlinks and I think also often rhode island reds start to lay at a fairly young age, normally? Yours are almost 7 months old and not laying?

I don't know the factors that can cause them not to lay ... hopefully someone here will have an answer, or at least some questions for you!
