Could we do a "waitin' for eggs" rollcall?

My four oldest are also.

My other four are I think about 8 weeks?

You guys are so much better about keeping track of your chicken's ages. I always have to go back and look in my checkbook for the dates I bought them then add a few days

I keep telling my DH anyday now, poor guy has no clue that it will be a few months before they lay.

WoodenPony and I are about even with the ages of our chickens. My Dominiques are about 14 weeks and my Rhode Island Reds are more like 7 weeks. I hope to have an extension on my current chicken coop build before they start laying so that I can have their nesting boxes in the extension part.

Me too totally. I had to go look on the caller ID all the way back to find the calls from the feed store telling me they were in......and add a day. So i got sick of that and knew eventually they would delete themselves so i finally wrote it all on the calender. Now i got a big note pad for all my chicken stuff. All my user ID's and passwords. Websites, hatcheries etc.... Very handy. The closer you get to eggs, the more it all matters. My calender has more chicken notes than appts.

Oh lurky thank you for making me feel better!!

I thought I was such a bad chicken mom not knowing their ages and all.

I will follow your example and get myself a notebook and write all my chicken info down in it.

That way I as well will be able to join in the ranks of "good chicken parent."

You can all try what I did - it worked.

When my BSLs were 19 weeks we had a little talk. I told them all the books said eggs at 20 weeks and that other chickens on this forum were laying at 17 weeks or earlier and I was getting very impatient and frustrated with checking the nest boxes each morning only to find them empty...... "SO, here's the deal. We're having a bunch of people over next weekend and the menu is either going to be omelettes or chicken. You decide."

They started laying that week.
