Could you get sick from the raw egg in eggnog?

Many years ago I was 9 months preggy and sick as a very sick dog with a sinus infection/chest near pneumonia. I had no strength to cook and no appetite but I lived for 10 days on a diet of quarts of milk blended with 2 raw eggs and a touch of sugar & nutmeg.
DH loves his commercial eggnog. I'll still toss some eggs and milk in a blender:)

You will get a slight whitening of the egg white near the shell, but it will be soft. Just throw it in the blender with the rest of the ingredients. A lot of chefs think it makes a smoother recipe. I also don't scrape out the inside of the shell, just crack and pour out. At most I would use my fingers to gently swish out the shell. You could do less time too, maybe down to 30 seconds would be fine.
Coddled means "boiled egg" So technically any boiled egg from 30 seconds to a 15 minute hard boiled egg is coddled. There are also special little cups, called egg coddlers, to put cracked eggs in to cook. You will also occasionally find poached eggs called coddled too.

Technically it's possible to get sick from raw eggs. Like any raw food. I would just make sure the shell is freshly washed before cracking it into the eggnog. Make sure the egg wasn't damaged either. I would not use raw eggs if I had a weakened immune system or was pregnant. But that is my opinion.

I have been drinking homemade eggnog since I was 2 years old. My Dad used to make it for us every Sunday. Now I make my own homemade eggnog and sometimes add a little rum at Christmas.

Take the water off the heat and gently add the eggs. Immerse eggs quickly into ice bath, not cool water at the end.​
 
I have a recipe for eggnog without the raw eggs. It's a recipe for young children, elderly, pregnant or someone sick. I remember it being as 'close' to store bought as I could get without using raw eggs. Plus I didn't want to make an Eggnog for Christmas Dinner that some of my family couldn't drink. I'll post this tomorrow when I look it up in my cookbook.
