You know Vcomb, I'm still scared to tell my husband about this one. He's been very tolerant of my polish on the yard with the games so far but if he knew they might cross I think my Polish might go MIA...

I am interested in the looks of the many french breeds of chickens that look like half polish. I was curious how easy it would be to construct my own. How do the polish cross behave, egg laying, broody?

I know that most Polish hens don't go broody and are poor layers, so that would depend mainly on the other half, or what was bred to the Polish. It also depends on how strong genes are. My Polish X d'Uccle takes after his dad (d'Uccle). Horrible, nasty attitude! However, he has my Polish hen's intelligence and is very bright.

My Polish X Sultan lays small, off-white colored eggs. She has an attitude of her own. (Hates to be disturbed when dust bathing, will peck if she finds me irritating.)

Vcomb the pic of the columbian looking wyandotte x polish cross you have looks alot like one of the new breeds on feathersite, its something like Padovan crested hen or something.
A few years back we crossed our buff laced polish hens with a BLRW roo and got some funny looking chicks from them. They looked alot like the porloffs and had very 'active' crests. They would raise and lower them when you made them mad.

Can I revive this thread and ask all of your thoughts on a Polish as the dad in regards to egg production?
I am rather new to chickens, but would love for my birds to just brood some new egg laying babies for me, rather than buy them.
My hens are Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, a Speckled Sussex, a Partridge Plymouth Rock, EEs, and an unidentified black hen (black star? who knows).
Does anyone know what any combos made from those hens and a Polish dad would do, egg production wise?
No one is broody yet, which is good. But in a couple of years when it comes time to replacing hens, it would be great to try it from my own flock and not lose much in production. Of course this is only if someone will brood for me, as I don't have an incubator. :)
Thanks!
