Couldn't stand to hear it cry anymore... Update post #12

You did the right thing. He wouldn't have been able to hatch. He'll just need a little TLC and, unless he has internal issues, he'll be just fine. Leave the remaining membrane on though, it will fall off as the chick grows (better to leave it than to accidentally rip skin off by trying to remove it). You may need to isolate him with a quiet friend if the other chicks pick on him. He's very cute.

Update 1 week

Well the little blue maran has made it 1 week. She is tiny compared to her brother, but seems to be getting around ok. She looks like she is standing on her toes when she walks. One foot is curled and I tried the band aid trick for a week but she continues to walk on the side of her foot (I just took it off)....should I go longer?

Wonderful job!
As poster above said try again with someting hard under the foot, like a cut out peice the size of foot from a cereal box or such. Leave it on for 3 days then look again! Great work, she is very pretty.

Why do you think she still might not make it? She looks so wonderful, so fluffy and filled out, but I'm brand new to this.

I just don't want to get my hopes up. Sometimes they just die for no apparent reason. I guess because she is so tiny. She doesn't eat nearly as much as her brother...of course he is a male

*That* I understand!

Here's hoping!

I had a similar situation with the membrane & helping.....she is doing great and she is smaller than the others, but seems to be quite healthy! The boys named her Lucky Lucy - I finally having them calling her Luch - easier to say just 1 name
