Countdown to Ducklings! [a Journal]

That cool whip lid is a great idea! Thank you!

And that makes sense, I'm in the Tampa area and I've only lived here a year and a half so I've only experienced Irma. We had literally no damage at all, so I didn't consider what could happen!
Try finding an evacuation shelter that allows duck to be brought in.. NOT going to happen.. the Rouen, Swedish ducks could be blown off property and mate with our migratory birds and slowly wipe out our natural inhabitants. Rouen, Swedish are known as invasive species and are under strict control by FWC. If I had them w/o a permit, I wouldn't be advertising it on BYC. FWC has BYC access just the same as anybody.
I had almost an hour long inquiry with them one day from everything from duck permits to Hawks to trapping nuisance 4 legged varmints.
The web site is way too confusing. Call their phone number. They will school you of all do's and don't without zero confusion.

Yeah we didn't stick to a storm shelter with Irma, we hitailed it out of Florida like we will with every hurricane lol. My boyfriends family (who I live with) lived through Charlie and refuses to stay here for any others.

I also would put pine shavings down to line the tub instead of the pads & I used the same type of feeder/water containers you have & mine did fine,
I went with shavings too. But they are like a sponge. So I did this to keep me from cleaning out the mess multi times a day.

This was before I cut a cool whip lid out and placed it over the water. The bigger they get- the bigger the mess gets.

Also... totally random question.

I've just been assuming they're either both girls, or one boy one girl, but... what if they're both boys?? :duc

Are they like some animals where two boys will fight each other constantly? Will they try to mate each other?

That year- "Charlie- Frances- Gene" Whacked us. I think their actually were 4 that touched our state that year but those 3 are the ones that tore us up. Not as strong as IRMA.. she was almost big as Andrew.
Irma thinned out my flock.
Great meeting you. I love to chat with fellow Floridians. Hard to find people who understand the conditions we go thru. The North says we have wimpy winters and call us soft, but my friends in the north would not survive our summers if air condition wasn't invented.:gig
I have to skid-dattle.. again..great meeting you. I too am new to ducks. It is a learning experience. Especially when you are a neat freak like myself. Get ready to do I LOT OF CLEANING! :lau
Best regards
