Countdown to receiving new chicks on oct 9th week

my welsummers look like this bottom pic the one in the top pic looks alittle darker

Dont forget they are all newborn babies and will sleep lots. Plus not every breed reacts, grows, responds the same. I would just watch and see how it does in teh next few days.

I don't find it looks much darker, but it could also be a speckled sussex

After googling welsummer...it does look like those babies...the one who passed looked like an EE to me. I approached them this morning with caution...checked on them in the dark a few times in the night lol. All are alive. The one still concerns me but she is eating and drinking and I don't see anything on her butt etc. I just notice she is less active and just kind of stands around looking confused. I lifted the ecoglow this morning and everyone was fine, last night I was worried because some of the chicks didn't sleep under it...I'd walk by and see one sleeping next to the food etc....I was worried that the others wouldn't let it under the warmth etc...but it seems they really do adjust themselves. Everyone looks good this morning besides my one confused one. I've been looking at them more now...feet etc I'm amazed still . This morning I swapped out the electrolyte water for fresh plain water...they checked out the new dish right away. I kind of want to give them something but I've been told no treats for the first week. My dogs whined at them all night....I'm debating moving the dogs lol

Does everyone take pictures of their deceased birds? My husband thinks its creepy...but I wanted to be able to identify them etc...
The ones that confuse me I think are all Easter eggers...lol because they have such diff colors and dark heads etc...but I thought the welsummer looking one was an EE too.

EEs can come in any different colour. Most have beards - I wouldn't breed an unbearded EE.

That is the thing with EEs they do come in every color of the rainbow which I love. I have 3 EE hens and 2 bantam EE Roos, really wish I had a roo in standard and a hen in bantam, I just love them, one of the hens turns out is blue wheaten I am not sure is the pattern is right but she is beautiful. I like the idea of that ecoglow I just never bought one because they were expensive but I am hearing alot of good things from people. Ya know some little ones who might seem weaker might be dealing with stress alittle longer than others. Have you checked to see if she is seeing ok? Make sure she is steady when whe walks? I am dealing with one of my brahma chicks, the ones I searched high and low for, is not seeing out of one eye very well or at all. She still finds food and water and heat, she just is kind of slow and not as energetic as the others. I brought hard boiled egg to them 2 nights ago that is when I realized it, while everyone was going nuts over it she slowly made her way over and when she tried for a bite would miss by a hair and then would turn her head to look at it again and try to peck at it again, it is just heart breaking. I am doing my best to resolve the problem I really hope I can.
One of my dogs is just in love with, or maybe wants to eat, the chicks. I have them in my master bathroom and she lays there by teh door and crys when she hears them peeping, and if I am in there with them she whins loudly and scratches at the door, I dont trust her near the babies, she does fine with the grown ones outside but she is a cattle type dog and hunting dog and it is just too tempting to grab at fast moving things.
I think you will turn your hubby into a chicken fanatic, mine wont admit it but he is not an animal person and I am a crazy animal lady so he deals with it. He wasnt thriled when I bought bantams because he views it as food only but these are pets to me. I love them they are my world, they have helped me out of a deep depression so they mean alot to me. He will go out with me and watch them being silly and talk to them and carry around the turkeys lol, yea he cant tell me he doesnt like them anymore

. He is learning their names (yes they all have names) and at any rate will listen to my daily poultry blog about how the day at the coop went when he gets home. Dont worry he will be hooked soon enough

Maybe so. The markings on the head did look my welsummers but I guess if it is a tad lighter different lines breed variances. Dont you love a good mystery.

I have 2 hens blind in one eye. Both get around okay and eat and drink fine. It's when it's treat time that I have to make sure they get a bit too.

I do find some are slower to get around as well. Hopefully she will perk up soon.

That is wonderful,, not that they are blind in one eye, it is great that they are getting around fine. That gives me alot of hope. I have been taking her out when I bring a treat so she gets some.

Both of my girls have been blind for a year at least. They have really bad aim, but the boys REALLY like them They seem to be favourites.

This is my 1/2 blind hen Harriet (this is her good eye) She has a growth on the other eye. I've had her checked out by a vet and it is benign and hard to cure. I have to keep her eye clear from debris, but she doesn't even seem to notice she's different. Love this girl.

My molting other 1/2 blind hen Honey in front. Her inner eyelid covers most of her cloudy eye. Not even sure what was going on here, just that whatever happened, it's not contagious or infected. I've tried multiple poultry antibiotics applied and nothing helps it. She acts more blind than Harriet.

They are gorgeous. What type is honey? I am glad they are all able to get along that is what I want for Luna, she can be half blind she will still live here.

Honey is a cochin. Buff x Partridge in colour As is her sister in the back. Honey even had picture of the week on here a few months ago!

She is a doll. I do not own any cochins but want some badly. I am waiting to find some for a decent price. There was a lady who was going to give me two blues and a black because that is one of the breeds my daughter wants and she asked for chickens for her bday. It ended up falling thru and I was heart broken. Now I am back to searching for a couple cochins.
